Okay, this should be common sense.
I’ve been involved in some great Tweet chats, but one in particular stood out to me this week.
I was delighted to be apart of #InfluencerChat which takes place each Tuesday night from 8-9PM EST. The discussion was over “How to promote your content without being obnoxious.”
Man! Did I learn a lot! What struck me was some of the discussion about being social on Social Media. I assumed this was common sense right? The point of social media, is to be SOCIAL! Right? Well of course! This should be common sense, however it’s not always practiced.
Instead, what happens is people begin to act like robots on social media, constantly treating their feeds like classified ads. Their hope is that people will come in groves to hear them puke up their sales spill and buy fast so they can make quick money. Word of advice. Classified ads are usually thrown away. Don’t treat Social media like them.
Blake….look in the mirror.
My goal on this blog is to be totally transparent with my readers. So I would be lying if I said I was not guilty of ignoring the social aspect of Social Media.
If you were to look back just six to eight months ago at my Twitter profile (go ahead and look) you would be disgusted. I was a sales ad! About the only content I shared around that period of time, was my own. NO WONDER IT DIDN’T WORK THEN! We won’t even go into all the spamming I was tweeting to people I would find on search.
Psh…What was I thinking? Oh I know, I thought it was okay. I thought people would just buy from me and that I’d make some quick cash, but it doesn’t work that way.
Care before Share
Here’s a great piece of advice from good ‘ole Teddy Roosevelt:
People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
And again from the great Twitter genius Brian Fanzo @iSocialFanz, who simply uses the hashtag #ShowUCare.
Today, I adopt my own mantra, “#CareBeforeShare.”
There’s nothing wrong with promoting your content, but if that’s all your doing, you’ll never see results.
[clickToTweet tweet=”If you’re only promoting your own content, you won’t succeed. #CareBeforeShare” quote=”If you’re only promoting your own content, you won’t succeed. #CareBeforeShare”]
You have to be social. Show others that you care about what they are doing, what they are promoting, and how you can help them succeed. Remember this quote:
It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.
Live by this. Care first. Then share. #CareBeforeShare.
Overall, be SOCIAL on Social Media! You’ll love the results!
